Morning session: (choose one)
Marketing FSM - Make it Bigger, Make it Easier, 9 AM to 12 PM, Vanessa Cayle, MSPT
- Marketing the miracles...that is the struggle of the FSM practitioner! Vanessa
Cayle, MSPT is the founder and director of the CranioSacral Institute of Michigan.
FSM has been the cornerstone of developing her growing and sustainable practice in the
midst of the worst economy in the country. Learn her secrets of when and what to
market...and to whom. This 3 hour workshop will walk you through:
- Establishing the niche of your practice
- What marketing tools do I need for my practice?

- What can I do in-house?
- When do I need to hire a professional?
- How do I make my patient my billboard?
- Do I need a website?
- What is a good use of my marketing $s and what is not?
- Where do I start...where do I stop?
Treating Complex Myofascial Pain, 8 AM to 12 PM, Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT
- Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT invites you to learn about Treating Complex Myofascial Pain.
As a recognized expert in treating myofascial pain and dysfunction, she will teach you simple
evaluation methods, "hands on" techniques and FSM frequencies that get fast results. You will
be able to apply your new talents in your clinical practice on your first day back to work.
This is an interactive, "hands on" class. Loose fitting/gym clothes are suggested and bring
your most difficult myofascial pain case reports.
Afternoon session: 2PM to 6PM (choose one)
Comprehensive Treatment of Fibromyalgia, Carolyn McMakin, DC
- FSM is a wonderful resource for the successful treatment of fibromyalgia. The most
important thing you need to know about fibromyalgia is that it is curable. Not in
every patient. Not in every case. But it is curable often enough that a cure
should be the ultimate goal of therapy.
- This four-hour course covers the diagnosis of myofascial pain syndrome and
the differential diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and its various etiologies. Practitioners
will learn about the various conventional medical and alternative fibromyalgia
treatments and will learn how to combine them with FSM in an integrated program
designed to help the patient improve and eventually achieve recovery.
- Practitioners attending this course will receive a notation next to their names
on the FSM website indicating that they have special training in the treatment
of fibromyalgia.
Neurologic Exam for Clinicians, Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT
- Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT developed this entertaining and hilarious course
"Neurology for Chickens" AKA "Neurology for Clinicians" to help manual therapists
of all specialties and anyone working with pain patients gain understanding and
confidence in basic peripheral neurological examination. This class has been so well
received that FSM has asked her to teach this course for our clinicians. Whether
you need to learn how to do a basic motor/sensory exam and check reflexes for the
first time, or you just want an "anything but boring" refresher, this course is
fun, easy and an interactive way to learn.
February 20, 2010 - 9AM to 6PM
Molecules of Behavior - Functional Medicine and FSM Approaches to
Optimizing Neurotransmitters, Catherine Willner, MD
The goal of this educational program will be to add options for use of frequency
specific microcurrent therapies for behavioral and cognitive symptoms presented in
the context of evaluation of neurotransmitter "imbalances". This extensive
presentation includes a focused review of the principles of basic and nutritional
biochemistry necessary to assess and optimize neurotransmitter and synaptic
function in the human brain, including review of intracellular and synaptic
communications in the nervous system. Clinical and laboratory evaluation techniques
are provided and discussed in terms of appropriate utilization. The antecedents,
triggers, and mediators related to identifying risk and options for improving
neurotransmitter function are reviewed. Specific transmitters and their purported
behavioral impacts to be reviewed include dopamine and the catecholamines
(epinephrine and norepinephrine), acetylcholine, serotonin, GABA, and the
ATP/adenosine energy signaling system. Specific case presentations will be used
to demonstrate the principals of evaluating human behavior in the context of
neurotransmitter function and how that can be optimized using a Functional
Medicine approach with the inclusion of cases that have responded to protocols
using FSM. Cases discussed have been chosen from examples of traditional
deficiencies, including different forms of depression, examples of addictions
and anxiety disorders, cognitive and other neurodegenerative disorders, but the
major focus will be on optimizing healthy function at all ages.
